Our next "Gathering Place" event will be held in the Worship Center on Sunday, September 7th.
As Five Forks has grown over the past 20 years, we have experienced the benefits of growth …
More conversions
Numerous activities for youth and children
More opportunities for people to serve
More wide spread support for missions
These benefits have not come without a price, and what it has cost us is our connection with one another. We have tried different things through the years in order to become a true “church family.”
Church Productions, Sports Ministries, etc
“Getting To Know You” articles and pictures
Pastor’s Luncheon and Church Tours
Discover Class for newcomers
Wednesday Night Fellowship Meals
Small Groups
While all of these have helped in some way, we are still struggling in our effort to get people connected as a church family. We believe that “The Gathering Place” has the potential to really work…the question is, do those of you who are looking to get connected feel the same way?
What is “The Gathering Place?”
On designated Sunday afternoons the Worship Center becomes a large “family room.”

* We set up a screen in the corner of the Worship Center and project an NFL game for those who enjoy watching football.
* We set up several tables for those who enjoy scrapbooking.
* There is a ping-pong table for those who want to play.
* There is a television set up for children to watch videos.
* We set up large tables so that people can bring their favorite board game(s) and play with others who are interested.
* We set up small tables so that people can bring their laptops to work on (we have a wireless internet connection) or books to read.
When we held "The Gathering Place" in January, over 100 people attended and everyone seemed to have a great time getting to know one another.. When we held them in the Spring only 30 or so turned out, and while we had a good time, we are hoping to accomplish so much more.
Are you frustrated by your inability to feel a part of the church family at Five Forks?
Would you like to get to know people who attend Five Forks and have similar interests?
Do you enjoy football, or board games, scrapbooking, or any of the other things listed above?
Do you enjoy just hanging out in a relaxed setting?
If so, why not attend “The Gathering Place” on Sunday, September 7th? We will begin at 1pm and go until sometime between 4pm and 5pm. At this point we are planning on holding these events every other week through January.
The games that will be shown on the screen are those games carried on local channels, which means a Redskins, Steelers or Ravens game will usually be on. On September 7th we will likely be watching the Bengels/Ravens or Texans/Steelers (the Redskins do not play that afternoon).
Mark your calendars and come and go that afternoon as you please. If you already feel you are a part of the Five Forks Church family, come and reach out and get to know those who feel as if they’re on the outside looking in.
