Five Forks Today

Rick and Ann Marklund

Rick and Ann are serving at the Dakar Academy in Senega, West Africa. With them are their children, Peace and Purity.

Five Forks is the Marklund's home church, and we support them financially by setting aside money each year from our Spending Plan.

Here is a note we received from Ann in April:

Dear Friends,

I know that some of you have been praying about the
possibility of my being the new director of Dakar
Academy. Happily, I want to inform you that I was
appointed yesterday. It was an exciting interview
process with many questions. I felt good about being
able to share some of the vision I have for where DA
should be going. I felt very supported by the board
and by the other staff. My transitioning will begin
within the next few weeks. It will be full and at
times confusing.

Please pray for me and the other
administrative people as we work through our
relationships and issues that need to be addressed
this spring. The current capable director will of
course continue to lead the school until he leaves in
June. We will be in the MD/PA area from June 19- July
15.

I would deeply appreciate your prayers for some of the
issues that need to be resolved.

1. We have grown beyond the facilities in which we now
reside. We need long term solutions to this, but we
also desperately need to know what to do next year!!
Particularly classroom space for elementary and middle
school, and dorm space. This will take every
concentrated ounce of our effort to resolve.

2. Staffing needs. We need elementary teachers,
science teachers, Bible teachers, relief dorm staff.
If you are interested or know of anyone who is
interested or anyone whose arm could be twisted to be
interested, please let me know immediately. The Lord
always supplies, but it is a difficult issue.

3. Prayer for the electrical outages here in the
country. Although lately they have improved, for
approximately a month we were without electricity
every day for 4-12 hours! It is hard to run a school
(and also live) with outages like that.

4. Prayer for unity and healing for staff. There have
been difficult and dangerous evacuations from
countries; there have been administrative upheavals;
there was an intense re-accreditation. All of these
and many more factors need to be addressed on some
level.

Thank you so much for your prayers and continued
support. We are only able to be in Dakar because of
you.

Warmly in Christ,

Ann Marklund

P.S. We have never been able to reach our support goal
of $5000 per year. We have had consistently to dip
into our savings from the few years that we were
employed in the U.S. If any of you would feel led to
give a one time or on-going gift it would be so deeply
appreciated. Let us know if you could help so that we
can say thank you., because we are not able to receive
direct contributor lists. You could mail checks to us
directly, or if you want a tax receipt to Five Forks
Brethren in Christ Church, 9244 Five Forks Road,
Waynesboro, PA 17268. Attach a note explaining that it
is for our support. We only want what the Lord leads
you to do.
