Deliverance From Sin in Christ

Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is an international Christian evangelical movement that currently works in 120 countries. International headquarters are located at 101 Queen Victoria Street, London, England.
Founded in 1865 in the United Kingdom by William and Catherine Booth, the Salvation Army, following a quasi-military structure, involves itself in performing evangelical, social, and charitable work, and brings the Christian message to the poor, destitute, and hungry by meeting both their physical and spiritual needs. The organization claims that it’s ministry extends to all, regardless of age, gender, color, or creed, Indeed, those among Booth’s first converts to Christianity were thieves, prostitutes, gamblers, and drunkards. His aim, and the continuing aim of the Salvation Army was to lead

people to Christ and link them to a church for spiritual guidance. When local churches would not accept these new converts because of their past, Booth continued giving spiritual instruction, and challenged them to save others like themselves.
The work of the Salvation Army came to America through the efforts of Lieutenant Eliza Shirley, who had come here to join her parents. The first Salvation Army meeting was held in the city of Philadelphia in 1879. Reinforcements came in 1880, and in three years, the Salvationists, as they came to be known, had expanded their operation into California, Connecticut, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. The work has continued to grow until there is hardly a location where the presence of the Salvation Army is not visible.
