December Conference Meet Summary
The first weekend in December was a busy one for BIC Quizzers,
hosting the first conference practice quizzes this year.
The Susquehanna conference joined Allegheny for a mixer
quiz on the 4th; the Atlantic conference also held theirs
on Sunday, while Great Lakes quizzed on Saturday the 3rd.
The Susquehanna / Allegheny quiz went without a flaw, and
was a lot of fun at that. Luke Holtry, Coach of Blue Mountain
said, "I like the idea of a mixer quiz, it brings down
the tension." Our thoughts exactly. In the varsity
division, Team 2 coached by Rachel Kitner came in first,
followed by Team 5 coached by Tracey Kipe. Team 3 coached
by Curt Wengert and Team 6 coached by Andy Heller tied for
third place. In the JV division, Team 3 coached by Sherry
Wengert finished first, Team 2 coached by Jason Richwine
finished second and Team 1 coached by Hannah Timmons came
in third.
The Great Lakes Conference quiz was also good, according
to quizzer Nathan Rosentrater. "Highland won on the
20th question being down by 10. Nappanee was second, Ashland
A was third, Ashland B was fourth, White Rock was fifth
and Union Grove was sixth. The jumping was quite fast when
Highland and Nappanee squared off, and the remaining teams
continued jumping at a consistent pace. Sam Weaver from
Oak Hill is also quizzing with Highland. Overall, most people
knew the material quite well."
The Atlantic quiz had a good report from David Feister
of Manor BIC quiz team. "Crossroads came out the strongest,
winning all of their quizzes. Manor lost once to Crossroads
but won the rest of their quizzes. Two other teams did notably
well: Elizabethtown and Harrisburg, losing to Manor on the
20th and 19th question, respectively. Overall, the jumping
wasn't as fast as I've seen it before, and therefore there
seemed to be a lot fewer errors. There was at least one
new team, Hershey BIC. Some people that I noticed were doing
especially well were Tori Sider (E-town), Frank Peiffer
and Jocelyn Witmer (Manor), Michael Mumper (Harrisburg),
Emily Phillippy (Fairland), Andrea and Erica Heisey (Crossroads).
But these were only people who I saw quizzing, there are
probably others that I didn't get a chance to quiz against."
