The founding pastor of the congregation is Larry R. Steffee,
who has pastored in the Brethren In Christ Church since 1967,
including eighteen years at a congregation three miles east of Smithville. Pastor
Steffee completed undergraduate studies in religious studies and mathematics
at Messiah College, which was founded by the Brethren In Christ Church in 1909. He
also completed graduate studies at Middle Tennessee State University in the
field of mathematics. He retired May, 2010, from DeKalb County High School, where he was employed as a math teacher since 1984. He has been employed as a part-time math instructor for Motlow State Community College since 1990.
The congregation elects a board of directors to provide
leadership in promoting congregational growth and development, and to
represent the congregation in making decisions affecting the life of its
members. This board meets on a regular basis. In addition there
is an annual meeting of the entire congregation to elect board members and
other officers of the congregation.
