Tell Me About the Brethren in Christ

If someone asked you to describe the Brethren in Christ, what would you say? If a friend, for instance, wanted to learn about the church you attend, how would you reply? Have you ever wished you could, somehow, capture the "spirit" of our church, and put it into words?

A group of lay persons, pastors, and church leaders were called together to do just this. For two days, participants from Canada to Florida to California to Pennsylvania worked to describe essential convictions of the Brethren in Christ. In the end, the group agreed on ten core values which they sensed to be at the heart of our life and work together. ... [read this article]

Handicap accessibility
Our new church was designed in 1998 specifically to be optimally accessible for people regardless of their mobility limitations or handicap. Special van-accessible handicap parking spaces are located near all the major entrances, from the main front sanctuary entrance to the doors near the rear of the building. Please call ahead if you have any concerns or special needs.
Hearing Aid Devices are available for those who need them. For hygenic reasons we keep them separated by individual for use week to week. If you would like to make sure we have one for you on Sunday or any other church event, please feel free to call ahead.
our vision statement

The Grantham Church seeks to be a body of believers that:

  • testifies of God's grace and forgiveness by affirming Christ's lordship and responding willingly to the Holy Spirit's leading in every area of our lives.
  • celebrates the love of God by participating in worship that is heart-felt, intergenerational, and God-honoring.
  • lives together in community by nurturing loving relationships, practicing mutual accountability, and serving one another.
  • cultivates mature disciples of Jesus by fostering an ongoing sense of spiritual adventure, encouraging a disciplined devotion to personal and corporate prayer and Bible study, equipping people to use their gifts and abilities, and offering varied opportunities for ministry and service.
  • reaches out effectively to the local community and the world by inviting people to faith in Christ, caring for people's physical and spiritual needs, confronting evil in its various forms, pursuing peace and reconciliation, and participating in global missions.

The historical streams of our theology

by Pastor Emeritus Dr. Robert B. Ives

The Brethren in Christ are a people who have taken the Bible seriously. This marks their theology, which is biblical and life-centered rather than dogmatic and systematic. True, there are statements made about various theological issues, but the emphasis is on the life. One can observe that emphasis in each of the three streams of thought which make up the background. ... [read this article]

A history of the Grantham Church
by Jacob G. Kuhns

The brethren of the Grantham community met for worship and fellowship in private homes, including the present Missionary Home, as early as 1835, more than thirty-five years before the Brethren in Christ had any church buildings. The Grantham Sunday School opened in the S.R. Smith factory building in 1909, three years before the Messiah Bible School Chapel was dedicated in January 1912. ... [read this article]

A Brethren in Christ Theology of Worship

Terry L. Brensinger

I like to watch movies from time to time with family and friends. My own preference is to watch them early enough in the evening so that adequate time remains to discuss and evaluate what we just saw. What did we like about the film? What was the theme? How was it developed? Were the characters appropriately portrayed? Did the special effects enhance the overall impact of the movie, or did they detract from it in anyway? These and other such questions often occupy our after-movie conversation. Rarely, however, do we discuss or even consider the film’s director. ... [read this article]
