arts ministries

The Arts ministry at the Grantham Church consists of our annual Worship Arts Weekend, and the Art Gallery in Rooms A1&3. (Read more below.)

Worship Arts Weekend is held each spring (since 2004) and the focus is on one special visiting artist, a day of hands-on workshops, a special community art exhibition and numerous special creative contributions to the weekend's worship times, such as special music composed for the weekend, dramatic performances or installations of art in the sanctuary for the enhancement of our community worship.

The other aspect of this ministry are the seasonal art projects to provide large visual elements for the sanctuary, and digitally projected images. The most recent project is shown below.

our purpose

W O R S H I P
God gives us artistic abilities for a reason: to worship and bring praise to His name. God equips and commands us, as He did Bezalel in Exodus 31, to create all kinds of crafts to beautify His temple and visually represent His greatness and glory. This would be the foremost focus and purpose of the group.

S E R V I C E
As we worship, we seek to assist others in worship. Visual imagery can help demonstrate ideas and Biblical concepts. It can greatly enhance a person’s personal worship experience and focus in a worship service setting. We seek to be of help to the church in its need for artistic projects for various events and services throughout the year.

F E L L O W S H I P
A team of people with a similar interest, coming together on a regular basis, working on projects together and participating in certain events together provides great opportunities for fellowship and friendships among one another. We seek to be a close and unique group, encouraging and helping one another as well as those we minister to.

Grantham Church Art Gallery [more]

In February 2008 we will exhibit a series of lithographs by Otto Dix from the Robert & Sandra Bowden collection for the Lenten season of 2008. Otto Dix (1891–1969) is one of the greatest German Expressionist artists of the first half of the 20th century. He was known for his work in the 1920s that focused on those at the margins of society.

He was deeply impacted by his service in World War I and his early work reflects those experiences. His post-World War II work was largely religious in nature, and during that time he produced an important series of expressionist lithographs that depict the book of Matthew.
