Details
We are just about ready to go, so check in frequently for the latest.
Dates:
June 13-June 27, 2001 (Wednesday through Wednesday)
Destination:
Caracas, Venezuela and nearby areas.
Cost per person:
Aproximately $1000, depending on air fare. We have secured a fare of $391.80 per person for the plane tickets, which is excellent.
What we will be doing:
Our first week or so will be spent at the Fuente de Vida Ministry Center, mostly helping with hands-on projects. This should be a nice opportunity to adjust before we go to work in the big city. In Caracas, we will be involved in a variety of street ministries, as well as participating in activities in the churches there.
Puppet shows, both indoor and outdoor, are turning out to be major part of our work. We have been helped immeasurably by Rick and Sue McCoy, of King's Kids Unlimited, in preparing for the puppet ministry. Connie Braucht has been heading up the puppet-making, and Mary Stoner is leading the practices. Linda Leitzel is in charge of our Spanish preparation, with much appreciated help from Lois Bair, a local Spanish teacher.
General Information/What to Expect:
Click for a copy of a general letter that Bob Pringle, one of our missionaries in Venezuela, sends out to potential work teams. The letter is specifically addressed to labor teams at the Ministry Center, which is only part of the work we'll be doing. Therefore, some of the info is not fully relevent to our trip. None-the-less, there are a lot of good tips here.
Current To-Do List for Team Members
(Updated June 9, 2001)
- We have raised about $12,500 fo the $13,000 we were aiming for. The balance, along with some extra for additional items for our full-time missionaries in Venezuela, has been supplied by our regular Green Grove Faith Promise Missions Fund. Praise the Lord for his blessings!
- All passports and plane tickets are in hand.
- We have suddenly lost the participation of two of our members, Josh Braucht and his dad, Gus, due to Josh recently suffering a serious burn accident. Josh will be recovering for some time, and the family needs to be together at this time. We are seeking quick replacements from others in our congregation, and will know by Monday whether any new members will be joining the team. We leave Wednesday.
UPDATE
Two members of our congregation have stepped forward to round out the team. Paul Smucker, our former pastor and father of our current pastor, and his wife Heidi, will be joining us. Both have previous missions experience and will be a valuable asset to the team.
